CALLING FOR KIDS RAISES $160,000---THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Calling for Kids campaign. While we didn’t reach the $300,000 goal we were aiming for, we did raise $160,000. That money will train more teachers and provide more mentoring for teachers than the school district could afford on its own. It WILL make a difference in children lives. If you left for spring break early and forgot to donate, you still can. Go to www.issaquahschoolsfoundation.org and click on the ‘Donate Now’ button in the upper right hand corner.

TAKE A QUICK SURVEY ABOUT CALLING FOR KIDS The Foundation wants your reaction to this year campaign. Go to: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/survey-intro.zgi?p=3DWEB227MYDCLPX5=20 to take a very quick online zoomerang survey and provide your feedback.

(skjakle@aol.com) (rebeccajc@comcast.net)

This evening is highly recommended by previous audiences! So please join us for an evening of discussion with Elementary School panelists including current Kindergarten parents, teachers and guidance counselors.
You will learn how to prepare your new student for their school experience and yourself for navigating the school years. Topics will include what to do if they cry, preparing for the first day, clothing, supplies, fears, buses, adjusting to being at school, and communicating with teachers. We will also address how to get ready as parents for this big change. This is an interactive presentation, so come with your questions.
This is NOT a presentation on school academics and curriculum, but rather an opportunity for parents to ask other parents and specialists what it is like to start kindergarten and how to address the challenges of being a new elementary school student and/or parent. Suggestions on how parents can work with their children in the upcoming months and through the summer so that they are ready for kindergarten in September will be shared.

Caring Through Sharing! Thank You!

A huge thank you to all the families who participated in this truly great program! Because if your amazing generosity we were able to provide 11 children from 5 different families within our school district with some very special gifts, groceries and clothing this holiday season. Additionally, we were also able to donate to another organization called Network Ministries who helps the needy right here in Sammamish.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Parent Representative for the Boundary Review Committee.

Discovery is looking for a parent representative to serve on the district’s Boundary Review Committee, which will recommend a district-wide border configuration to the School Board to ensure that all schools and have the right balance of student enrollment and resources in the future. Every school will have a principal and parent voting representative on the committee who will be responsible for setting aside personal interests to find boundary solutions that are best for Discovery and the district as a whole. Applications are available in the main office and must be returned by January 7th. Our site council will select our representative. The Boundary Review Committee is scheduled to convene on January 30 and meet about every other Wednesday through June. All meetings will be open to the public, and minutes will be posted online. The new boundaries will begin to go into effect in fall 2009, when Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus will convert into a middle school and Skyline and Issaquah High will reclaim their freshmen. The committee will have the authority to look at all boundary options, and it should be close to a final recommendation at the end of the school year. Contact Nancy Weinstein or a site council representative for more information about the application process.
